Not Pop Songs (cacaphony for Kate)

Can't keep my eyes open.

When I close them, all I see are mistakes.
(what happened to that FM station?)

ice moves
overhead
moored boats locked in its grip
their undersides tattooed
with the shapes of black rabbits.

in the cracks in the grain
where water once flowed up the
tree like mother to child, from the earth,
hundreds of cars screech by
beeping, honking, fist-shaking cacophony reigns
everyone so bothered, jealous, pious
and angry
crushed together with all the people they hate
including themselves.
Their aches, and rattles
clamoring down
some noisy wasteland.

I look up again, at the ice,
barely moving, we're all trapped here
a sea of black rabbits chasing each other
into bright shiny boxes.

I can't keep my eyes open.
(wish I could hear the radio)
these dials are frozen over.
(step out into the liquid sky)
when the moon is in the water.

Tiptoe (In A Quiet City)

the creaking floor
unbrushed dust under husks
of dead bugs in the window sills glistening
wind blows, quiet / mercy / set for sailing days
little boy dreams if freedom
instilled with science
sirens, always sirens
in the dark hours
the bodies fall
like clock points
like victimless heroes
laid out to be weathered by the caustic rains

peaches gleam
in the repetition of harvest
captured in this painting
creatures scurry by in the measured hush
of the silos
the pomegranates crushed under
hooves of horses marching in random figures
ghosts of cowboys
riding leather and burlap carpets
dancing in the sky
in ethereal antiquity
riding into silence
sun forgotten trees.

autumn early
here now to earth
any one thing
kept in stasis
too long
left for
forgetting
laughter
running
jumping
standing
barely
quiet
eventually. /

Reason Why I Love Bob Gutterman / part 2

if a man can make me smile like this...

what is not to love?

"And my body yearned to be free
So I got up on the floor and found
Someone to choose me
No more standin' along the side walls
Now I've got myself together, baby
And I'm havin' a ball.

Non Vageries

you
become waves
inside waves
of pleasure.
waterfalls,
endless streets
beautiful trees
even the bugs
in the ground
are treasure
(you'll see)
when you're
around.

Notes on Myrrhman

did I mention
this space
your eyes
vertical
ascension
clouds made
of glass
hours pass
I can't pay
anymore attention
captured my heart
the aperture of
my flaws
recorded
step by step
in anethemic
art.

Shake my head
shake my hands
at the floor
I never expected
riches
or to be poor
I already seem
to have it all
to have you
to grab you
by the handle
tip your ideas
over and create
a scandal
in bohemia,
caffinated anemia
coffee stains,
dark teeth in the night
and black sheets
of rain
the depth of my decay
as it pours
wash the ink
like blood
off of stones.

------------

white sheets
violins and linen.
white wood
and black blood
compromise
like zebras could
if zebras would
take to you
like I talk
to the moon

--------------

only halfway
into the onyx woods
the sharp angels
and twisted branches
unsubstantiated
entrench chances
claw at the past
horses ride
ferries slip
into the gash
the river engulfed
laughter and card tricks
and the man who falls
in love with death's daughter
and her kiss
\(unfinished)
